  Setting up Microsoft Outlook to send/receive medportal email


Please note the instructions below are outdated and may no longer be necessary to add a medportal account to Outlook. When adding an account to Outlook, enter your medportal username and when prompted enter your medportal password. Depending on the version of Outlook you are running the steps may vary slightly.

In your medportal email, first enable IMAP.

  1. In your email, click "Settings" at the top right
  2. Click "Forwarding and POP/IMAP"
  3. Click "Enable IMAP"
  4. Click "Save Changes"

Enable access to less secure apps

In 2014 Google made a change to security to block 3rd party apps, before you can use outlook you will also need to enable a setting which will allow access to less secure apps.
After logging in to medportal, click on the link below and 'Turn on' this setting that will allow access to less secure apps.

Outlook 2003

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Click "Tools" --> "E-mail Accounts..."
  3. Click "Add a new e-mail account" and click "Next"
  4. Choose "IMAP" as your server type and click Next.
  5. Fill in the following information:
    • Your Name: - type your name as you would like it to appear to others.
    • E-mail Address: - your full medportal email address.
    • Incoming mail server: - imap.gmail.com
    • Outgoing mail server: - smtp.gmail.com
    • User Name: - your full medportal email address.
    • Password: - your medportal password.
  6. Click "More Settings"
  7. Click the "Outgoing Server" tab.
  8. Put a check next to "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication".
  9. Select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
  10. Click the "Advanced" tab.
  11. Check the box next to "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" under "Incoming Server (IMAP)"
  12. Check the box next to "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" under "Outgoing Server (SMTP)"
  13. Enter the number "465" beside "Outgoing server (SMTP)".
  14. Click "OK"
  15. Click "Test Account Settings..." After receiving the message with "Congratulations!", click "Close".
  16. Please ensure that you download the latest updates for Outlook. This will resolve many of the common problems between Outlook and Google mail.

Outlook 2007

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Click "Tools" --> "Account Settings"
  3. Click "New"
  4. Click "Next"
  5. Check "Manually configure server settings or additional server types".
  6. Click "Next"
  7. Select "Internet E-mail"
  8. Click "Next"
  9. Enter the following settings:
  10. Click "More Settings"
  11. Click the "Outgoing Server" tab.
  12. Put a check next to "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication".
  13. Select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
  14. Click the "Advanced" tab.
  15. Select "SSL" from the drop down list beside "Use the following type of encrypted connection:" under "Incoming server (IMAP):"
  16. Select "SSL" from the drop down list beside "Use the following type of encrypted connection:" under "Outgoing server (SMTP):"
  17. Enter the number "465" beside "Outgoing server (SMTP)".
  18. Click "OK"
  19. Click "Test Account Settings..." After receiving the message with "Congratulations!", click "Next >".

GSuite solution
