  Migrating email from one medportal/Gmail account to another

To migrate email from a medportal/Gmail account that you own to another medportal/Gmail account that you own, follow these steps.

For purposes of these instructions, the account that holds the emails to be migrated will be called the "old" account and the one to which the emails will be migrated will be called the "new" account.

  • In your old account:
  1. Click "Settings" at the top right
  2. Click "Forwarding and POP/IMAP"
  3. Beside "POP Download:" click "Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)"
    NOTE: This will allow your new account to request and retrieve messages from the old account.

 

  • In your new account:
  1. Click "Settings" at the top right
  2. Click "Accounts"
  3. Beside "Get mail from other accounts:" click "Add a mail account you own"
  4. Type the email address of your old account and click "Next Step >>"
  5. Input the following information:
    • Username: <the full email address of your old account>
    • Password: <the password of your old account>
    • POP Server: pop.gmail.com
    • Port: 995
    • Put a check next to "Always use a secure connection (SSL) when retrieving mail."
    • To have all messages retrieved in this fashioned labeled with a custom or preexisting label, check the box beside "Label incoming messages" and choose the label you would like to be attached to them. (You may also create a new custom label from here as well).
    • Click "Add Account"
  6. You will be given the option of being able to send from this account as well. In the case of an old medportal account due to migration, you may skip this step, as the old account will not be valid once you have migrated successfully.
