When I open a lecture, it says "transitioning" then "ready" and doesn't play

When you see the lecture screen appear, the video may stay black after saying "transitioning" then "ready" in the grey bar directly below the video. In this case, the video will stay black and the lecture will not start.

This can be an unintentional side effect of uninstalling a codec pack on your PC. Codec packs override the windows default media player in many cases and will tell the computer to look elsewhere for its video encoding information. When this is removed, the uninstaller may not reinstate the original defaults, thus giving your machine a missing reference, causing it to not be able to play a video.

This behaviour has been confirmed with the "K-Lite Codec Pack" and may be affected by other codec packs as well. Reinstalling the codec pack will likely restore the functionality. If you do not wish to reinstall the pack, then a reinstallation of Windows may work to restore the broken references.

If you continue to experience troubles or cannot get it to work with the above solution, please feel free to contact medportal support at support@medportal.ca and one of our team will be more than happy to assist you.
